Diff two open files

Postby veddermatic » Mon Apr 14, 2008 4:58 pm

I am probably being brain dead, but I have two files open: file1.php and file2.php. How do I run a diff on them inside of aptana (I am running Pro)?

Failing that, how do I split my view so I can look at them side by side?

Just select both files in the 'Project' view, right-click and select 'Compare With'->'Each other'

good luck!

Thanks for the reply, that is handy to know.

Unfortunately, the files are sitting on two different SFTP servers. There's no way to just diff two buffers you have open?

Hi veddermatic,

You can look at the files side-by-side by simply dragging one of the open tabs to the left or right of the Editor window.

Thanks,
Michelle

It's so simple I never thought to try it

Thank you!

Hello,

I didn't personnaly succeed to compare two opened files. When I do "compare with", "each other" is disabled, I have just "local history".

How can I compare for instance thickbox.js opened from project view and thickbox.js opened via desktop, both are opened in Aptana...?

http://andrei.gmxhome.de/anyedit/

With AnyEdit, you get some extra options for "Compare With," including your clipboard contents or another open editor.

I have never tried it on Aptana standalone (actually I don't think I've ever tried Aptana standalone, period) but it works great with the Aptana plugin on Eclipse 3.4.

Thanks, and why is this the most hidden feature in Aptana? I've been searching for hours trying to figure out how to get my editor back there after I accidentally closed it. No documentation, no alternate menu items, nothing in the help files. Can we at least get a menu item that says split view??

Very, very frustrated,

If you think that the feature isn't implanted in aptana, use ASAP and add a feature request.
