Apache ANT

Postby length » Mon Apr 23, 2007 11:01 am

Is there any light in the tunnel for Apatana to include Apache ANT in the distro?

This would be HUGE for people in teams and using SVN.

I apprecate I can use it when I have Eclipse and Aptana as a plugin, but the installed version of Aptana, for me at least, is more stable and has some things I like with the installer.

Hi Length,

I checked, and the ANT plugin relies on the JDT for at least the UI portion. Is there a particular piece of ANT we could include? Alternately, you can drag all of those pieces over from Eclipse into an Aptana install, but that might be too much.

Thoughts?

I can only tell you what I use in the regular Eclipse, as I dont know too much about the workings and how the dependancies fall together.

I create a project called ANT, and add in some XML files there, with my ant scripts in.

Then using the builders option in a projects properties, add in specific variables and then use the run button to execute the specific script. Or trigger it with a hot key.

An example would be http://www.webdevref.com/blog/index.cfm ... A23FF93A8B compiling cf code with ANT.

Does that help answer this for you? what other information can I give you?

No--that helps immensely. I'm not 100% positive if we can strip out the pieces of the JDT (Java Development Tools) and keep all of the pieces that using ANT in this way requires.

I've added a Trac item for it for now, but I think there may be an alternate approach where we use the internal scripting engine of Aptana.

http://www.aptana.com/trac/ticket/4206#preview

For the moment, the best workaround is to use Aptana as a plugin to Eclipse, but I understand why you'd prefer not to do that.

Best,

are you saying that Eclipse Monkey will replace ANT

--or--

you can use it to help implement ANT within aptana?

I'd love to see it in the distro, too. Thanks!

I know this is old - but I'd like to add my vote for Ant support?

My problem is that I want to try and install PDT as a plug-in for Aptana Studio. I'm missing Ant as one of the dependent plug-ins for installing WST, and the only distribution I can find it in is in the Eclipse platform update which later crashes Aptana Studio. Anyone had any luck ?

Hi kRON,

Most people who are using PDT and Studio together install them both into Eclipse as plug-ins. There are a few issues with PHP support when using these two plug-ins together, but for the most part, they "play nice" with each other.

Thanks,
Michelle
